TWONETS is the first racket sport played with two nets

WHY TWO NETS?

In Twonets, the game is played with two parallel, separate nets. This setup makes it harder to win the point, since it’s not enough to simply hit the ball at your opponent’s feet, as you would with a single net. Instead, playing with two nets—also 75 centimeters high—means that most of the time the ball is hit closer to the hips than to the ankles. This is what allows for longer, more entertaining rallies.

TWONETS IS FOR TWO PLAYERS ON A SHORT COURT, ONE-ON-ONE, AND TWONETS AIR IS FOR FOUR PLAYERS, TWO-ON-TWO, ON THE SAME LONGER COURT. BOTH COURTS ARE THE SAME WIDTH.

GENERAL RULES OF TWONETS

A point is scored if any player commits a foul, regardless of who serves.

Every time you score a point you serve again. If the point is lost, the opponent serves.

The match is played to the best of 21 points, players change sides of the court when they reach 10 points.

The serve is performed the same way as in badminton, padel, or pickleball—that is, from below the waist and from any point on the court, provided it is from outside your baseline.

The server must move up immediately after serving to defend the net.

In Twonets AIR, the serve is directed at either opponent and may land anywhere on the opponent’s side of the court, but this is not the case in Twonets.

Only in Twonets is there a service zone marked by two lines or two cones, located on both sidelines, two meters from each end line. In Twonets, during the serve, the server must stand within their service zone. The server must serve with the intention of having the ball bounce within that zone; if, during the serve, the ball bounces between that zone and the second net, a fault is committed, just as if the ball bounces between the nets or outside the court.

  • Twonets AIR it is necessary to say who is the odd player and who is the even player. This way we will know who should serve if the score of the pair is even or odd.
  • A match is played to 21 points using rally score, with a point awarded regardless of who is serving.

TWONETS WAS INVENTED BY A PROFESSOR WHO IS AN EXPERT IN SPORTS FOR ALL

TWONETS was invented by José María Cortés Barrio. The idea started at the end of 2023, Chema, as his friends call him, was looking for dynamics for the students in his Pickleball classes. He noticed that when his students managed to exchange four horizontal volleys in a row, they got very excited. He wondered how he could generate as many horizontal volleys as possible. He knew he needed to get the players a little further away from the net, as the volleys were short-lived.
